The intention of my painting is to draw attention to the beauty around us. In the work the extraneous ‘noise’ of a scene is taken out, and the basic components are arranged into a lyrical motif. The work is about richness, light, and mood. While I have worked in several mediums, oil is what I use to best express myself and my inspirations. The thick buttery texture and slow drying time allows painting to be reflective and responsive at the same time. My still life paintings are often the arrangement of flowers and glass. In the studio the light is steady – no wind, rain, changing light conditions. My landscapes however, are painted en plein air and are more immediate. I’m responding to the changing light – the blossoms that are falling – the seasons that are changing.
For more than thirty two years I have lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and it is a cradle of creativity. The light is brilliant, the earth full of reds, yellows, oranges and mahogany, and the vistas are breath taking. I am committed to my work and I continually hone my skills, so that I can share the beauty with other.
